THE BRIEF

What GeoCart is

GeoCart is TwinFusion's price-comparison site for shoppers in Kenya. It is built to bring together offers for the same product from different online sellers, show them side by side in the shopper's chosen currency and put the sellers nearest to the shopper first.

GeoCart holds no stock and takes no payment: clicking an offer sends the shopper to the seller's own website to buy. Behind the search, scheduled jobs refresh listings every six hours, daily exchange rates keep prices comparable, and an admin area manages listings, categories, sellers and their delivery regions.

How GeoCart works

Overview

GeoCart is a location-aware product search and price-comparison platform. It is designed to bring together offers for the same product from several online sellers, so a shopper can compare prices and see the sellers nearest to them first. GeoCart never takes payment; each offer links to the seller's own website.

Who uses it

  • Shoppers — search without an account; their city and currency choices are remembered during the visit.
  • Administrators — manage listings, categories and sellers, and run listing updates.

Main modules

  • Search and results — keyword search, a category filter and sorting by relevance or price.
  • Location — the shopper's city is detected automatically and can be changed by hand.
  • Currency — prices shown in the shopper's chosen currency, using daily exchange rates.
  • Listings — each listing is one seller's offer and can be marked unavailable or removed.
  • Categories — nested categories with a set display order.
  • Sellers — each seller's city, map location, delivery regions and contacts.
  • Listing updates — automated collection of listings, with a log of every run.

How it works

  1. Collect — scheduled jobs gather product listings every six hours and update existing offers; each run is logged with counts of new and updated listings.
  2. Convert — exchange rates are refreshed daily so offers in different currencies can be compared.
  3. Search — a shopper searches for a product, and matching offers are ranked by how close the seller is to the shopper's city.
  4. Compare — the shopper filters by category, sorts by price and compares competing offers side by side.
  5. Buy from the seller — clicking an offer opens the seller's own website, where the purchase happens.

Integrations

  • Online sources — product listings collected automatically.
  • Exchange-rate service — daily currency rates.
  • Location lookup — finds the shopper's city from their connection.
